Skype’s latest version to enables voice translation

Microsoft is making a big step towards having voice translation on Skype of one person translated into the native language of another as it revealed that its latest version of its Skype preview app for Windows 10 supports voice translation to mobile and landline phones.

Skype Co-Founder Launches Private Messaging App ‘Wire’

A group of former Skype technologists, backed by the co-founder of the messaging platform, has introduced a new version of its own messaging service that promises end-to-end encryption for all conversations, including by video.

Wire, a 50-person start-up mostly made up of engineers, is stepping into a global political debate over encryption that pits privacy against security advocates, epitomised by the standoff between the US government and Apple.

The company said on Thursday it was adding video calling to a package of private communications services that go beyond existing messaging providers.

Popular video calling and instant messaging service Skype has made an announcement that it has enclosed the Skype Translator tool into its Windows desktop App for all users. This is coming a few months after Microsoft launched Skype Translator Preview for Windows which was rolled out to general mobile users, and a year after the introduction of the preview on mobile .

According to Microsoft the Windows App of the service offers voice-to-voice translation in seven languages: Chinese Mandarin, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. And for users who prefer texting, the App supports 50 languages including Hindi and Urdu.
