Uber yesterday revealed that continually creating economic opportunities for driver-partners through technology remains one of its key priorities for West Africa for the rest of 2017, and in the forthcoming year.
This was shared at a media roundtable by the recently appointed General Manager for Uber in West Africa; Lola Kassim.
“Uber’s business partnership approach provides an accessible means for driver-partners to not only supplement their own income, but also to become small business owners, thereby helping to improve the lives and futures of individuals, families and communities. In Nigeria, Uber has 267, 000 riders who actively utilize the app, and 7,000 drivers. [...]
Uber today announces the appointment of Lola Kassim as its new General Manager(GM) for West Africa. This is coming six months after former GM, Ebi Atawodi was promoted to resume position as Product Manager, Global Payments Growth for Uber worldwide.
Lola holds a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and an MSc from the London School of Economics. She has worked as a Management Consultant with McKinsey and Company, with over 10 years of global experience at senior private sector and government levels in Africa and Canada. Speaking on her appointment,Lola Kassim says;

Uber unveiled a new device called Uber Beacon, which can be placed under the driver’s windshield. Its purpose is to identify the car by flashing a designated color. When you hail an Uber, you can select from a wide variety of colors within the app and your car will then display an Uber logo lit up with that same color, making it easier to pick out in a crowded place or at night.
